Waikiki Elementary School is an institution of higher learning located in Honolulu. Our faculty is dedicated to guiding our students as they grow and develop, putting them on a successful path for life. We adapt our curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse student body, taking into account the many ways in which students learn.

Faculty at Waikiki Elementary School are leaders in the community who share a passion for teaching and creating a supportive learning environment that is challenging, collaborative and engaging. Our modern classrooms make it possible to explore the world around us in a safe, encouraging environment. We offer a wide range of diverse courses that are very applicable in today's rapidly changing world.
Habits of Mind
The school’s mindful culture, based on Dr. Art Costa’s Habits of Mind (HOM), is critical to the school’s ongoing success. The school’s mission of developing harmony of the heart and mind comes to life through this focus.
The HOM are a set of 16 habits researched to be universally practiced by successful adults. They include behaviors such as persistence, managing impulsivity, listening with empathy, creativity, and more. These habits are both modeled and directly taught throughout the school. Through their practice, students learn to navigate challenging situations, ranging from trying new foods to choosing what game to play at recess. When practiced at a young age, HOM help students develop into adults who are able to navigate challenging situations with intelligence, clarity, and poise. Through their practice, students learn how to listen and reflect, how to communicate ideas, how to form opinions. They learn “how” to think not “what“ to think. They learn to respect difference and to become compassionate, committed, collaborative global citizens. They graduate with a repertoire of skills that prepares them well for life. As Art Costa says, “The HOM prepare students to do well on both the tests they take in school and the tests they encounter in life.”
